Story of Shark and Monkey

“Once upon a time a man appeared in a village and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.

The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. “Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.”

The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys.

Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!

Higher stocks pile on the pressure for CPO price

Quoted from CIMB analyst Ivy Ng..

Malaysia’s palm oil stock climbed 7% mom to an 18-month high of 2.05m tonnes in June..

..we continue to expect CPO prices to trend lower, possibly to below RM3,000 per tonne in the coming month as we estimate a 2% mom uptick in palm oil stock in July..

Palm oil stocks climbed for a fifth straight month to an 18-month high of 2.05m tonnes at end-June 2011, marking the first time that stocks are above the psychological 2m tonne mark this year..

All countries, except China buy more palm oil from us. Export increase from 1,406,000tonnes to 1,581,000tonnes.

Average local CPO price declined 2.5% mom but was 31% higher yoy at RM3,287 per tonne in June. This brought the average CPO price for 1H11 to RM3,463 per tonne, an increase of 35% from last year’s RM2,550. CIMB target average CPO price is RM3,200 for whole 2011. So 1H11 already average at RM3,463, what do you think of average for 2H11?? CIMB target average of RM2,900..

Back from Cambodia

It has been almost 1 month since i update my trading position.

I have been away to Cambodia for 8 days. Well, Cambodia is really a poor country. And I really admire the effort put in by the people there in various thing (including giving us tourist the best service they could). I can foresee Cambodia is a good place to invest in any kind of business, as it is still in its infant's stage of developing.

Although I am away, I do follow up 'shallowly' on equity and derivatives news. Well, let's get this Potato's Engine start again!!
